My husband and I got married on the coattails of Hurricane
Sandy. If you ever could imagine a wedding of uncertainty, this was it.
Of course, our concern was with all of the friends and
relatives in the tri-state area who had been impacted by the storm. Some of
them were without power for the full week leading up to our wedding date. Some
were older, frail, and ailing – not fit for the added stress and the long drive to NJ.
Thus, a lot of our wedding guest RSVPs were in flux –
changing from Yes to No and back again.
By some miracle, we did have internet even with all the
power outages in our area. So, to make things easier on everyone, I made our
wedding day into a Facebook RSVP event and put all the invited guests who were
also my FB friends in there.
It really took the stress off to be able to get those instant replies and not deal with lost mail or misplaced piles of invites or whatever monkey wrench may have been tossed in.
So, with any luck you won't be getting married during a
headline- and history-making hurricane. But even if you do find that your
RSVP list is getting hairy, my advice is to just take it to Facebook! It didn't
take me long at all to put the page up, and was so much easier to manage in the
end.
Happy wedding day to you, NJ bride!
